Frozen

The Mt. Washington Stage Line’s Snow Coach was our trip up (lower left; we cheated), but two pair of Nordic skis our trip back down the Auto Road. Conditions on the road were … terrible, but it was a lot of fun. We see Mt. Adams in the center, with it’s smaller cousin J.Q. Adams just to the right. Further right, Mt. Madison.

Looking down on the clouds

Coming down the Mt. Washington Auto Road, looking down on clouds above the Great Gulf Wilderness. I think Mt. Jefferson is on the left, and a bit of Adams on the right. Certainly different from our Presidential traverse earlier in the summer!

About 4 1/2 miles up the Mt. Washington Auto Road, courtesy of the Snow Coach. What you see is not snow, but rime ice, which is frozen cloud. This made for slippery driving and impossible skiing, at least until we were below tree line again. Otherwise, a beautiful January day!

During the January 21st snow storm, Tim and I went for a short photo trek around the valley. I’ve been taking film photos as well with my old Canon AE1, some Ilford HP5, and a 50mm lens. This snowflake landed on the AE1 at a very convenient time!
